Research

TBMG undertakes research in several aspects of theoretical biology and medicine.

Our current major lines of inquiry are:-

The aetiology of deep venous thrombosis and chronic venous insufficiency.Allometric scaling of metabolic rate.Hormesis (biphasic effects of drugs and toxins) and the ‘universal cell response’.Mechanisms of intracellular transport.

We have also recently published articles on miscellaneous other topics: a possible link between electromagnetic fields and prostate cancer; the flux summation theorem of metabolic control analysis and its significance for the ‘evolution of dominance’; male infertility in cases of varicocele.

Suggestions for collaboration with other workers in these and other fields will be considered. TMBG is willing to discuss potential projects and to offer free advice.

Journal

Our open access journal, Theoretical Biology and Medical Modelling (http://www.tbiomed.com/home/), is published by BioMed Central, London. All submitted manuscripts are scrutinised by at least two independent peer reviewers, one of whom is usually a member of the Editorial Board. All published articles may be accessed and downloaded, free of charge, by any reader. Submissions about any aspect of theoretical biology and medical modelling are invited.
